Ladies Only

Ladies Only Pheasant and Partridge Shooting

Never let it be said that Ladies cannot shoot and never underestimate how good a shot the majority of our Lady guns can be!

Over the period I have run the Shoot there has been a steady increase in the number of Lady Guns joining our shoot days. I am now pleased to read that Ladies Shotgun shooting is one of the fastest growth areas of any sport; and so it should be! I would like to believe that this is in some part thanks to our Ladies. The days are run as a normal Members Day except the Champagne is pink!
We offer days with drives to suit all levels of experience so novice guns are most welcome, however for anyone new to driven shooting I ask that you have one of our instructor/loaders to stand with you to give that extra bit of confidence.

Our Ladies days at Ripley Castle and Mountgarret offer good testing pheasant and partridge and at Eagle Hall & Ashfold Side you will be presented with some of the finest birds you will ever experience.

As always no overages are charged and non shooting guests are most welcome, if they enjoy the experience we may well convert one or two! You are also most welcome to bring your dog providing it is pegged during the drives. We have had every type of dog and I prefer the ones which do not bark throughout the whole drive!!

Although strictly Ladies only shooting, you are most welcome to bring a man to look after your every whim, or should you wish to hire an experienced instructor/loader this can be arranged.

Meals and refreshment throughout the day are of the highest quality and are included in the shoot fee, as is the wine, which we take in moderation. Non shooting guests are always welcome and are requested to make a small donation towards our Charity Fund.

I feel our Ladies days are best described in the following testimonial from a Lady gun who recently joined the Shoot at Ripley Castle for her very first time:

I shot on one of the Ripley Castle Ladies Days in early December 2011. It was a truly wonderful experience and myself and the Ladies were made to feel most welcome. The drives were perfectly challenging and the topography was stunning. The weather gave us snow, rain and shine, but we were made to feel warm all day, through great company and a real feeling of being a normal gun on a game day.

I have booked the same day again for next season and can’t wait to shoot at Ripley Castle. I would recommend the Ladies Day for any lady gun, be you new into the sport or a regular gun.

Any date in our list of available days where no guns have been taken can become an Exclusive Ladies Day.

Although predominately clay shooting, Victoria’s Ladies have a Ladies Only Day at Ripley Castle and one at Mountgarret in the new season. I prefer Victoria to describe her Club.

The Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club is an award winning, Ladies only Shooting and Cake Club. It was formed in September 2011 and has grown phenomenally since then in to the UK’s largest ladies only shooting organisation.

The key objective of the S&CBC is to encourage more women into what is traditionally a male dominated sport, make it accessible and affordable. We take away any pressure, preconceptions and make it jolly good fun! The club is very well attended by more experienced Lady Guns too, including a good proportion of game shots. We do cater for everyone and always have a nice mix of abilities. Girls are matched with others of similar experience and given an Instructor and targets to suit them. We shoot, then reconvene as a group and enjoy a variety of homemade cakes and tea served in vintage china and a jolly good chat! It's a great opportunity to make new friends, network and shoot with really nice ladies.

Our days generally start at 10am, the ladies are introduced and acquainted before being split into smaller teams and assigned an Instructor for the day.
The teams go their separate ways around the shooting ground, shooting a number of stands, under the qualified instruction of their Coach.

If you have never shot before, don’t worry – you will be taught the basics and will be hitting simple targets in no time. The guns and cartridges we shoot have very low recoil, so there is no need to worry about ‘kick’. Our Instructors are friendly, patient and have a great sense of humour.

A team member will keep score on one of our little S&CBC score cards for you.

Once everyone has taken all of their shots, you will make your way back to the Club House for tea and cake. We will count up the scorecards and the highest scoring ladies – one from the beginners and one from the more experienced will win a S&CBC rosette and a prize! There is also a rosette for the best cake – should you like to bring one along.

We now have an ever growing list of dates, which includes a shoot in every County in England, with more to come!
