Ripley Castle Shoot

The Shoot covers The Ripley Castle Estate, The Nidd Beat of The Mountgarret Estate, The Hob Green Estate, The Cayton Estate and other areas leased from neighbouring farmers. On a typical shoot day we would normally shoot drives on more than one of the estates covered by the shoot.

The combined Eagle Hall & Ashfold Side Shoot extends to approximately3,000 acres and is located on both sides of the B6265 Pateley Bridge to Grassington road from 1/4 mile outside Pateley Bridge and borders our two Grouse Moors at Hardcastle and Heathfield.

Hardcastle & Heathfield Moors

Our two Moors, Hardcastle & Heathfield, are located in Nidderdale, one of the smallest and most scenic of our Dales in North Yorkshire, cover approximately 4,000 acres near Greenhow just outside Pateley Bridge. Both Moors have SSSI status, Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Traveling from Pateley Bridge to Grassington on the B6265 the two moors are to your right before and after you travel through Greenhow Village with the entrance to Stump Cross Caves on the opposite side of the road being the extent of the boundary. The two moors are approximately 25 minutes drive from the shoot at Ripley Castle.

The Mountgarret Shoot

The Mountgarret Shoot is set in 2,000 acres of rolling North Yorkshire countryside just north of Harrogate.

The Shoot is steeped in tradition and for as far back as records show it has been run as the Mountgarret Family Shoot. Its heyday would have been in the Victorian/Edwardian era. I understand it was then a wild grey English partridge and hand reared pheasant shoot.
